Congratulations Vanessa!
In her own words: “ I competed at the South Yorkshire Schools Athletics Association at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster. I competed in the 200m sprint and came 1st in my heat which then led to me getting through to the finals which I also came 1st in overall! As I came first, at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster with the English Schools qualifying standard, I have now been selected to compete in the English Schools Track and Field Championships at Manchester regional venue, Etihad stadium and I will be representing South Yorkshire. This event will be taking place on Friday 8th July 2022 and Saturday 9th July 2022.”
In our words: Despite being only 13 years old, and currently in Y8, Vanessa qualified to represent South Yorkshire in the English Schools Track and Field Championships with a new personal best time of 26.05 seconds in the ‘Under 15s Junior Girl’s 200m’!
On the day of the event, she had to contend with the extra challenges of being drawn for the inside lane and a headwind but she ran strongly and came in 5th overall – just 100th of a second behind 4th place. This places Vanessa as the fastest Year 8 girl at 200m in the country! What an amazing achievement. Well done Vanessa. We are so proud of you for putting in the time and hard work to achieve this!
